A circuit drivers seem to appreciate, the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) has been a part of the American Le Mans Series program, and since last year has figured on the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship calendar as well. In 2015, only the two GTLM and GTD classes will be on the track next weekend.
The Virginia International Raceway, with its 17 turns, is located in Alton, Virginia. At the first race held in 1957, a few big names in American motorsports were at the start: Carroll Shelby, future winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959, and Bob Holbert, father of Al Holbert, three-time winner at the 24 Hours in 1983, 1986 and 1987. Closed during the 1970s, the circuit rose from the ashes in 1998 thanks to Harvey Siegel, a real estate entrepreneur and vintage car driver.
In GTLM, Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner, class winners at Le Mans with Corvette Racing, will attempt to help their teammates and leaders - Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia - bounce back with the No. 3 official Corvette C7.R after their sub-par performance at Road America, and retain their position, but the official Porsche North America team intends to draw from the 911's one-two in Wisconsin.
The Oak Tree Grand Prix of the Virginia International Raceway will take place Saturday and Sunday, August June 22nd and 23rd; the start of the race will be given at 1:05 p.m. (6:05 p.m. in the U.K.), and will be broadcast live on the American channel Fox Sports 1.
