TUSC - Road Atlanta: Le Mans in the USA

Since the first edition in 1999, the 1,000-mile Road Atlanta race (or 10 hours) has become one of the great classic races in the endurance world. For a week, Georgia sets itself on French time and then the Marseillaise resounds before the start of the race. In reference to its big sister, it is known as Petit Le Mans.

Yet, the two circuits have little in common other than figuring among drivers' favourites. As flat as the Le Mans track is with long straights, its American counterpart is hilly and doesn't let up on the drivers. Indeed, the few gravel traps do not slow down the race for a sinking car and the rails are more or less close to the track on what is known as a fast circuit.

Petit Le Mans, which will take place this year on Saturday, October 4th and has served as the closing race of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship (replacement for the American Le Mans Series) and the American endurance season for several years, will not fail tradition.
