By adding another win to its record at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the Audi R18 joins the legends of endurance racing. We look back on this exceptional car.

Successor to the R15 TDI, the Audi R18 TDI appeared for the first time on the track in 2011. Opting for a closed body, its lines were more fluid and aerodynamics that gave it the sleek look characteristic of the the German marque. The battle against Peugeot at the 24 Hours of Le Mans left no doubt as to its performance, with victory in its first appearance in La Sarthe. In this video you can see part of the alchemy that makes the R18 a car born to win. From the 2011 TDI version to the 2012 R18 e-tron quattro hybrid prototype, the R18 has continued to set the pace.

Last weekend it scored a superb victory as well as establishing a new lap record of 1'43'' 886. Who can challenge the R18? Toyota maybe, don't forget that the Japanese marque, who were absent this weekend in Florida, has already won against their German adversary. In the 2012 24 hours, the two TS030 Hybrid chassis could do nothing against the armada of Audis, but it was different in the three rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship (Sao Paulo, Fuji and Shanghai) where the Japanese manufacturer took victory. Thus, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which will take place on the 22nd and 23rd June, could well be the place where Toyota bite back.
