On the morning of Saturday 16th June, a few hours before the start of the 80th Le Mans 24 Hours, four Matra prototypes took to the track, driven by Henri Pescarolo, Gérard Larrousse, Jean-Pierre Jabouille and Josh Hill.. The first two won the 24 Hours of Le Mans as a duo in 1973 and 1974. Josh Hill is the grandson of Graham Hill, who was a team mate of Pescarolo for the first Matra win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1972.
The sound of the famous Matra 3 litre V12, which delighted generations of fans was heard again on the 24 Hours circuit, despite the very wet track conditions due to rain that fell shortly before the celebration . Those few laps were also used to simultaneously to celebrate another anniversary: the fortieth anniversary of the first Le Mans victory for Henri Pescarolo. The Man with four wins in La Sarthe (1972-73-74-84) and he also holds the record for participations as a driver, with 34 starts from 1966 to 1999.
