Present for several years in endurance racing through private teams, Honda Performance Development engines have been at the forefront. The company based in Santa Clarita (CA) is already preparing the LM P1 engines to meet the new regulations for 2014.

After several successful seasons with the Honda LM-V8 in the LM P1 class, HPD engineers and designers actively working on a new V6 turbo. This new Honda HR22T is based on the current 2.2-litre winner of the Indianapolis 500, and will be available in 2014. It will meet the demands of new regulations for LM P1, and in 2015, a range of options for energy recovery.

For Steve Erihsen, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, this is a real technological challenge: "This is an exciting new program for HPD and our customer teams in the World Endurance Championship, as it brings manufacturer-level engine technology to privateer teams. A small-displacement, direct injection, turbocharged engine with a range of energy recovery options will provide private teams with the technical sophistication they need to compete under the challenging new LMP1 regulations."

The HPD LM P2 engine programme has also been a success. In 2012, it won class victory in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The HPD ARX chassis in recent years has won more than fifty eight victories including the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2007.

Both in LM P1 and LM P2, Honda Performance Development has become a major contender in endurance racing. Always a front runner and with a long and widespread history of success, they are planning the means for an even more illustrious future.
