Video presentation of the four classes in the Asian Le Mans Series

The Asian Le Mans Series begins in Shanghai (China) this weekend, a week after the circuit hosted the 5th round of the current World Endurance Championship. If you’re not familiar with the ins-and-outs of endurance on a global scale, we’re here to explain.

This year, the Asian Le Mans Series comprises four classes. Pre-2017 LMP2 prototypes such as the Ligier JS P2 and the ORECA 05 share the track with the equally impressive LMP3s that feature in the European Le Mans Series and the Michelin Le Mans Cup. The Ligier JS P3 is the sole chassis this year.

The non-prototype field is split in two. GT is open to the GT300s that race in the Japanese Super GT championship as well as GT3-homologated cars. GT Cup, for amateur drivers only, is reserved for one-make series like the Audi R8 LMS Cup, the Ferrari Challenge, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo and the Porsche Carrera Cup and GT4s.
