WEC - 6 Hours of Fuji presentation

This Sunday is the 6 Hours of Fuji, the sixth of nine World Endurance Championship (WEC) races in 2016, at the Fuji International Speedway owned by Toyota.

The 4,563 km-circuit, which includes one of the longest straights of the season, is situated at the foot of Mount Fuji, one of the three holy mountains in Japan - called by the Japanese Fuji-san not Fujiyama as often believed.

Reaching the peak of Mount Fuji at 3,776 meters amounts to a pilgrimage for the Japanese who have succeeded in registering the famous active volcano (the last eruption dates back to 1707) in the world heritage of the UNESCO in the Cultural and non-Natural classification. Though each year 150,000 individuals make it to the summit, all attempts are strongly discouraged between October and May due to weather conditions - which in the past have disrupted the 6 Hours of Fuji, causing the safety car to take the track.

Nonetheless, this year the weather forecast is quite favorable with sunshine and mild temperatures predicted for the entire event which will start Friday, October 14th with free practice, and end Sunday the 16th with the six-hour race. The start will be given at 11:00 a.m., 3:00 a.m. in the U.K.
