WEC - Alex Brundle joins G-Drive Racing (Oreca) for the remainder of the season

The G-Drive Racing outfit has announced the arrival of Alex Brundle in the #26 Oreca 05-Nissan for each of the next six rounds of the 2016 World Endurance Championship (WEC).

The presence of Alex Brundle is no real surprise given the young Brit was a reserve driver for the Russian team at the 84th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Though supplementary drivers are not allowed at Le Mans, many outfits bring a fourth driver, answering to the necessary requirements to participate, ready to take the place of a driver in case of force majeure.

This year, Alex Brundle settled with taking part from the pits in the race in which he already participated three times between 2012 and 2014, with as key result claiming the second step on the LM P2 podium in 2013 in a Morgan-Nissan entered by OAK Racing. On the other hand, the son of Martin Brundle (winner at Le Mans in 1990 with Jaguar) made his mark in the European Le Mans Series by winning the first two races of the season, at Silverstone with as a bonus the best lap, and Imola in a Ligier JS P3 with the United Autosports team entered in the LM P3 class.

So the British driver will take part in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in the LM P2 class he dominated in 2013 by earning the honourary title of vice-champion of the FIA Endurance LM P2 Drivers Trophy. Brundle will nonetheless have to acclimate to the Oreca 05 since he has driven an Oreca LM P2 but it was an open prototype Oreca 03 at the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona. With Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr, he finished fifth overall with the former Muscle Milk team.

With G-Drive Racing, whom he will join at the 6 Hours of Nürburgring on July 24th, Brundle will also have a German teammate, René Rast, as well as one of the winners of the 2015 FIA Endurance LM P2 Drivers Trophy winners, Roman Rusinov.
