WEC and ELMS – Eight hours at Silverstone

The action promises to be intense this weekend at Silverstone, host of the fourth round of the European Le Mans Series and the first race of Season 8 of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Certain drivers will be pulling double duty, taking the start in both the ELMS and FIA WEC races.

4 + 4 = 8, in other words two four-hour races are taking place at Silverstone this coming weekend, creating a bit of a scheduling pickle for certain drivers, but they're not complaining. Fifteen will take the start in both the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) and FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) races. The 4 Hours of Silverstone (31 August) will serve as the fourth round of the ELMS and the 4 Hours of Silverstone (1 September) will kick off the 2019-2020 FIA WEC season. Nico Lapierre, Antonin Borga and Alexandre Coigny are going to double up for Cool Racing. Will Stevens will take the wheel of Panis-Barthez Competition's #23 ORECA 07 in the ELMS and Jackie Chan DC Racing #37 ORECA 07 Gibson in the FIA WEC. Phil Hanson and Filipe Albuquerque will compete in both championships with United Autosports. Job van Uitert will represent G-Drive Racing/Racing Team Nederland, Anders Fjordbach will represent High Class Racing, and Ben Hanley with DragonSpeed in the ELMS will drive Team LNT's #5 Ginetta G60-LT-P1 in the LMP1 class in the FIA WEC race. Alessandro Pier Guidi will be the only ELMS driver to compete in the LMGTE Pro class in the FIA WEC. Five drivers will take on the LMGTE Am class: Matteo Cairoli (Dempsey Proton Racing/Team Project 1), Christian Ried and Riccardo Pera (Dempsey Proton Racing), Nicklas Nielsen (Luzich Racing/AF Corse) and Thomas Preining (Proton Competition/Dempsey Proton Racing).

The FIA WEC field will boast 31 cars and 39 will take the start in the ELMS race.
