There were highs and lows for Aston Martin Racing at the first round of the World Endurance Championship on its home turf at Silverstone. The British team will be doing all it can to redress the balance at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend.

<p>The 94th 24 Hours of Le Mans will start at 16:00 today, Saturday 13 June 2026. Thirteen, six, twenty-six. Ring a bell? It&rsquo;s the length of the circuit! 13.626 km Just remember today&rsquo;s date and you&rsquo;ll remember the length of the circuit.</p>

<h2>3:22.564</h2>

<p>A lap time. The new Hypercar lap record set by Dries Vanthoor in the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 &ndash; BMW M Team WRT. He bettered Jack Aitken&rsquo;s 3:22.742, set last year at the wheel of the Cadillac. From now on, to be in pole position, you need to be faster than 3:23. But let&rsquo;s not forget that race pace is different. The fastest lap in the race was recorded by S&eacute;bastien Bourdais last year: 3:26.063. Le Mans requires mastery of the hottest lap, and the longest day.</p>

<h2>3:52.433</h2>

<p>Some drivers commit the whole circuit to memory, like learning to play a piece of music. Mattia Drudi, for example. For the second year running, he claimed the LMGT3 Hyperpole for Aston Martin, handing the British make its 71st World Endurance Championship pole position since the series began in 2012. Aston Martin becomes the first make to take five Hyperpoles since LMGT3 began in 2024. Drudi joins the select circle of drivers who have won at least two pole positions in the class: Sarah Bovy, Eduardo Barrichello and Finn Gehrsitz.</p>

<p>Nine. Is the number of Le Mans winners at the wheel of a Ferrari. The winning crews of the last three races haven&rsquo;t budged. La Scuderia believes in consistency. Toyota aren&rsquo;t far behind, with five. Nyck de Vries is the only driver who has yet to win Le Mans. There are former winners in the other teams too: Earl Bamber at Cadillac, Lo&iuml;c Duval at Peugeot, Andr&eacute; Lotterer at Genesis. And then there are the teams whose members have yet to taste victory at Le Mans: Alpine, Aston Martin and BMW. At Le Mans experience is an advantage. But it&rsquo;s no guarantee.</p>

<h2>10 years</h2>

<p>It&rsquo;s been ten years since Porsche won with the #2 919 Hybrid in the hands of Romain Dumas, Marc Lieb and Neel Jani. The most heartbreaking win in the history of the race. In the lead in his penultimate lap, Kazuki Nakajima (who shared the #5 Toyota TS050 with Anthony Davidson and S&eacute;bastien Buemi) was on the brink of the first triumph for Toyota. It was not to be. His car suffered a power failure on the Mulsanne Straight.</p>

<h2>13</h2>

<p>France is the most widely-represented nation on the grid: 13 teams and 31 drivers. Eleven Hypercar and 13 LMP2 drivers are French. However, LMGT3 is a British affair (12 drivers).</p>

<p>Great Britain ranks second after France, with 11 teams and 30 drivers in the race, ahead of Italy (8 teams, 16 drivers).</p>

<p>This is Romain Dumas&rsquo;s 24th 24 Hours of Le Mans, a record for a driver still racing. The two-time winner (2010 with Audi and 2016 with Porsche) is at the wheel of the #48 fielded by his own team RD Limited. He shares driving duties with Tristan Vautier and Fred Poordad. 24 hours. 24th time. A sign of fate?</p>

<p>Forty drivers are participating for the first time. There are 23 rookies in LMGT3, 16 in LMP2 and Victor Martins in Hypercar. None will ever forget their first time on the Mulsanne Straight at night.</p>

<h2>44</h2>

<p>44 cars are shod with Goodyear tyres this year. The manufacturer is the sole supplier in LMP2 and LMPGT3. Michelin is the Hypercar supplier, chasing a 29th win in a row. The first triumph of the series dates back to 1998 and the 911 GT1 driven by Allan McNish, Laurent A&iuml;ello and St&eacute;phane Ortelli.</p>

<h2>47</h2>

<p>47 years, three months and six days separate the youngest from the eldest driver of the 94th edition. The youngest driver, Ian Aguilera (CLX Motorsport #37), is aged 19 years, 2 months and 18 days. This is his first 24 Hours of Le Mans. He is one of several young rookies in the Le Mans new wave. Meanwhile, Canadian driver John Farano (DKR Engineering #3) was born 66 years, five months and 24 days ago. This is his second Le Mans. Separated by age, they are united in the joy of racing in La Sarthe. Le Mans doesn&rsquo;t care how old you are, just how committed.</p>

<p>It is interesting to note that two of these former winners achieved the feat with two different manufacturers: Brendon Hartley (Porsche then Toyota) and Romain Dumas (Audi then Porsche). Romain Dumas could notch up a third win with a third constructor, Oreca, but the LMP2s are not contenders for overall victory. The same goes for Jos&eacute; Mar&iacute;a L&oacute;pez. The former winner with Toyota is with Lexus in LMGT3 this year. However, Andr&eacute; Lotterer (#17 Genesis GMR-001-Hypercar) could claim a fourth win after his Audi exploits. If Earl Bamber wins with Cadillac, it would be his second victory with a different manufacturer (following his victory with Porsche).</p>

<h2>75</h2>

<p>Seventy-five years ago, in 1951, a modest German car took the start at Le Mans for the first time. The Porsche 356 SL in the hands of Auguste Veuillet and Edmond Mouche finished 20th overall and first in class. A discrete performance, but the class win was the beginning of a beautiful relationship between Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Porsche totals 19 victories overall (between 1970 and 2017), an all-time record.</p>

<h2>350.7 kPh</h2>

<p>Jules Gounon is the only driver to have clocked over 350 kph this week. He hit 350.7 kph with the Alpine A424 #35 Alpine Endurance Team. It&rsquo;s one of the highest speeds recorded at Le Mans since 2007, the Audi v Peugeot era. The open-cockpit R10s and the 908s blasted along at 351 kph. Since then, Stoffel Vandoorne was the only driver to break the 350 kph barrier, hitting 350.1 with the BR1 in 2019. Back in 1993, the Porsche 962Cs attained a lofty 360 kph in the practice sessions, and the Jaguar XJR-12 353 kph in the 1990 race.</p>

<h2>1,963</h2>

<p>Nearly 2,000 marshals ensure track safety. There are also 71 Scorpion drivers and 19 first responders, making a total of 2,053 volunteers around the circuit. A whopping 22 nationalities are represented among the 319 marshals from outside France.</p>

2026 24 Hours of Le Mans pre-race number crunching

Ferrari AF Corse, who have had a difficult week leading up to the 24 Hours of Le Mans by their usual high standards, brought some smiles to the Tifosi as the #51 led the #50 Ferrari 499P in Saturday's warm-up session.

<p>Fever and excitement were in the air as the final session before the big race took place. Alessandro Pier Guidi&nbsp; put the #51 Ferrari 499P on top in the last warm-up session before the 94th 24 Hours of Le Mans, which gets underway this afternoon.</p>

<p>It was the final chance to shake the cars down, get the drivers focused, and ensure everything was ready to go. The 15-minute warm-up offered one last opportunity to assess the track before the race. Drivers used the short window to bed in brakes, scrub tyres, check radios, and make sure everything was set for the start at 16:00 local time. The final dress rehearsal for the 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans had arrived.</p>

<h2>Ferrari give the fans a little excitement&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Hypercar</p>

<p>Pole-sitter for the 94th edition of the iconic race, the #15 BMW M Hybrid V8 rolled out of the pit lane first, with a gaggle of cars jockeying for position behind it, all eager to get out on track for the short, sharp session.</p>

<p>Ferrari were fastest in the shakedown, with Alessandro Pier Guidi stopping the clock at 3:26.540, three-and-a-half tenths quicker than team-mate Miguel Molina in the sister car.</p>

<p>The ever-present #8 Toyota slotted into third ahead of the #36 Alpine, who have been consistently quick in every session this week. Genesis showed promise in fifth, ahead of the #7 Toyota in sixth.</p>

<p>The #15 pole-sitter eventually ended up 12th, while the #12 Cadillac, which shares the front row with the Bavarian marque, completed its shakedown in 15th.</p>

<p>CrowdStrike Racing by APR soared to the top of the warm-up times, with Alex Quinn at the wheel of the #4 entry. TDS Racing&#39;s Mathias Beche came close behind, while IDEC Sport, who will line up on the front row of the LMP2 grid, rounded out the top three. Keeping a watchful eye in fourth were the Hyperpole victors, Forestier Racing by Panis.</p>

<p>TF Sport secured a one-two in LMGT3 for the Corvette brand, as Jonny Edgar went fastest in the iconic yellow #33 Corvette Z06 LMGT3.R. Third on the timesheets was Maxime Martin in the thunderous Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG LMGT3.<br />

Ferrari quickest in warm-up with a one-two at Le Mans

With a few hours to go before the 94th 24 Hours of Le Mans, the support fixtures have reached the chequered flag. The Porsche Carrera Cup Brasil and the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli took the track for their respective Race 2. As usual, both were action-packed.

<h2>Dylan Medler Adds another win to his collection</h2>

<p>At 09:15 this morning, the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli field set off for a crazy 35-minute chase around the Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans. Dylan Medler (#15 The Collection) took advantage of his pole position to hold on to the lead, leaving a scuffle in the Dunlop Chicane behind him. He was eager for revenge this morning, having missed out on a final squirmish with Hendrik Viol (#92 Scuderia Prana Racing) due to a mechanical issue in the last lap of Race 1.<br />
<br />
He managed to hold off Sergio Paulet (#1 Ineco - Reparto Corse RAM), who had been breathing down his neck from the start, but the threat became more menacing by the minute. Championship leader Paulet made a move to get by at Mulsanne Corner, but changed his mind, thinking there would be other opportunities. Even in such a short race, he thought he would have time to build up an attack. His effort were cut short by a safety car intervention. Just behind them, Andrew Morrow (#4 Charles Hurst) and Enzo Ide (#22 Formula Racing) made contact while jostling for position. Approaching the Daytona Chicane, Hurst touched the brake pedal and shifted slightly over. Ide, on his left, couldn&rsquo;t avoid him. The fates of the two 296s are entwined. Hurst hit the tyre wall while Ide hurtled into the gravel.<br />

A 15-minute slow period can be fatal to concentration. Not for Dylan Medler. As soon as the track was clear, he dictated the pace and built up a comfortable lead. Howe, the race was stopped four minutes early due to another incident before the Porsche Curves, competitors having completed only five real laps. Dylan Medler in the lead from flag to flag. Michael Verhagen was first in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli AM, following a DNF on Thursday. In Ferrari Challenge Coppa Shell, Yahn Bernier in the #399 (Ferrari of Seattle - MG1 Motorsport), Thursday&rsquo;s winner, conceded first place to Mitchell Green (#367 Ferrari Westlake). The Ferrari Challenge Coppa Shell AM, saw another triumph for Jean Ryu in the #108, Kessel Racing.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Pietro Fantin does the job in Porsche Carrera Cup BrAsil</h2>

<p>After Thursday&rsquo;s memorable battle, the Porsche Carrera Cup Brasil competitors were back for another intense 45 minutes. Jeff Giassi (#97 &ndash; Porsche 911 (992) GT3 Cup) took the upper hand in Race 1, having crossed swords with the valiant Mar&ccedil;al M&uuml;ller (#544). A lottery system completely redistributed the grid positions. Antonella Bassani (#72) started in pole position, followed by Pipo Massa (#19), son of Felipe, Formula One vice world champion in 2008. Giassi started in P6, M&uuml;ller in P5.</p>

<p>The real start took place at Tertre, a slow zone for repairs preventing any acceleration in the descent before the Forest Esses. Bassani held on to his advantage, while Giassi slipped down. At Mulsanne Corner, five-time class winner Miguel Paludo (#7 Porsche) took the lead. Then Pietro Fantin (#117), who was third in Race 1, drew up to his shoulder.</p>

<p>Fantin stayed on Paludo&rsquo;s heels for several laps, unable to get past. After several fruitless attempts, he eventually managed to overtake before the Michelin Chicane. Bassani was still behind. A little further back, a battle was raging between Marcos Regadas (#17), Mar&ccedil;al M&uuml;ller and Pipo Massa for fourth place.</p>

<p>Devant, Paludo et Fantin sont d&eacute;cha&icirc;n&eacute;s. Ils se passent, se repassent, mais toujours avec beaucoup de respect. Les freinages sont propres, les tentatives ma&icirc;tris&eacute;es. While they were occupied, Bassani crept up on them. A slow zone between Karting and Tertre Rouge calmed everyone down. Pietro Fantin took advantage of the return to normal to surge ahead with 15 minutes on the clock. Paludo was caught out in the same place and conceded second place to Bassani.</p>

<p>In the end, Pietro Fantin was victorious with a comfortable lead over Antonella Bassani and Miguel Paludo. An excellent result for the winner, the only driver on the podium in both races.</p>

2026 Support Races: Ferrari and Porsche in 24 Hours of Le Mans prelude.

From afar, at 300 kph, a Hypercar tyre looks like a black circle. But tyres are the subject of much research and development. Michelin has introduced a major change with the Pilot Sport Endurance 2026: render visible what is usually beneath the surface. The spectacular design that highlights the revolutionary sustainability improvements under way concerning Hypercar tyres.

<p>On the 24 Hours of Le Mans pit straight, the tyres are the only point of contact between car and asphalt. They transmit power, cushion shocks and aid driver performance for hours on end, rain or shine. This year, <strong>Michelin</strong> has shifted up a gear. In addition to competitive strength, the French manufacturer is telling the story of tyre technology in their design. It&rsquo;s a way of showing that innovation shapes endurance.</p>

<h2>Design reveals all</h2>

<p>It&rsquo;s difficult to imagine when you look at a Michelin Pilot Sport Endurance tyre, just how much technology is behind it. The banal, black circle of rubber masks <strong>a huge amount of research and development</strong>.</p>

<p>Michelin has set out to change that perception with its 2026 Hypercar range. The goal is to <strong>make technological innovation visible</strong>. Design is used as a language, to narrate the advancement in terms of renewable and recyclable materials.</p>

<p>The most impressive hallmark of the new-generation range is the <strong>patented micro-velvet finish</strong>. It&rsquo;s striking to look at. Light reflects differently on the tyre tread, creating a texture previously unseen in racing.</p>

<p>The finish is obtained thanks to a thin layer of special coating &ndash; thin as in a few <strong>hundredths of a micron</strong>. Its role is only visual. It has no influence on tyre performance but it makes them highly recognisable.</p>

<p>As it always has, since 1923, <strong>the 24 Hours of Le Mans serves as a testing ground</strong>. The FIA World Endurance Championship offers Michelin a field of experimentation to develop new processes to inspire future tyre design.</p>

<h2>A tyre made up of 50% renewable, recycled materials</h2>

<p>The Pilot Sport Endurance 2026 marks a turning point in the French manufacturer&rsquo;s strategy. It is made of 50% renewable, recycled materials.</p>

<p>They include:</p>

<ul>
	<li>Carbon black from old tyres;</li>
	<li>Oil from biowaste;</li>
	<li>Recycled steel;</li>
	<li>Resins from biowaste;</li>
	<li>Silica from biowaste;</li>
	<li>Natural rubber from hevea.</li>
</ul>

<p>The new composition in no way compromises performance. On the contrary, Michelin has announced <strong>improvements in terms of warm-up, consistency and handling</strong>.</p>

<p>This progress perfectly illustrates 24 Hours of Le Mans philosophy: to drive innovation to the very highest level to influence tomorrow&rsquo;s mobility. The project is in line with Michelin&rsquo;s intention to <strong>develop an airless, connected, rechargeable, completely sustainable tyre by 2050</strong>.</p>

<h2>The 24 Hours of Le Mans, the race that foretells the future</h2>

<p>Spectators often come to the 24 Hours of Le Mans to admire the Hypercars, hear <a href="https://www.24h-lemans.com/en/news/the-trackside-symphony-music-to-our-ears-57608">the sound of engines</a> and experience the adrenaline-filled atmosphere of the great endurance race. But, behind the most visible elements of the race hide incredible changes.</p>

The secret of the new 24 Hours of Le Mans Hypercar tyre design

	Practice was tough at Silverstone, with AMR taking the last two places in the LM GTE Pro qualifying session. However, the team fared better during the race, taking the third place on the podium in LM GTE Pro with car #95 and coming second in LM GTE Am with the #98.<br />
	<br />
	The only change made to the squad for the Belgian race is the return of Jonathan Adam in car #97. He was absent from Silverstone as its date clashed with the British GT.<br />
