WEC - Audi tests well at the Nürburgring

No less than 20 cars competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) were present at the N

The goal of course is to gain both experience and data at a circuit the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) has not yet ever included. Despite rather inclement weather, the competitors were able to rack up kilometers during the two days which ended up dominated by Audi with the best time clocked by Loïc Duval. The R18 e-tron quattro was ahead of the Porsche 919 Hybrid that won at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world endurance champion Toyota TS040 Hybrid and Team ByKOLLES' CLM P1/01, a prototype not equipped with an energy recovery system.

For Porsche, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley (on Monday), then Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb (on Tuesday) shared the wheel, covering a total of 1, 275 kilometers.

Andreas Seidl (Team Principal): "The Nürburgring being new on the FIA World Endurance Championship calendar, we started out with zero data. We worked on tweaking the car and managing the hybrid system on the circuit. Racing on a wet track on Monday was also useful to everyone involved. We are anxious to compete in this first German race of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Porsche has close ties with the Nürburgring. In addition to shared history and the success of our marque in sport-prototypes, it's also a testing and development site for our series cars."

After three rounds of the 2015 FIA WEC, Porsche is in the lead of the provisional constructor standings with 140 points, ahead of Audi (124 points) and Toyota (71 points).

In LM P2, the Strakka Racing team was able to familiarize itself better with the Gibson 015S it recently acquired to replace the Dome for the rest of the season. The "old" Gibson is still strong as it allowed the British team to clock the fastest lap in the class despite the presence of three Ligiers, one Morgan and the Oreca 05 that won at Le Mans.

In LM GTE Pro, Porsche Team Manthey's two Porsche 911s rolled the fastest in the backyard of Olaf Manthey whose team - bought by the German constructor - won at 24 Hours of Nürburgring five times between 2006 and 2011. It's the same situation in LM GTE Am though a lone Porsche managed to dominate Ferrari and Aston Martin.

Now the 33 competitors have a month to hone their preparation before heading to the Eifel and the Nürburgring for the 6 Hours of the same name, August 28-30, 2015.
