WEC - Final pole position of the year won by the #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid

The last qualifying session of the year, at the 6 Hours of Bahrain, has just come to an end. The #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid driven by Nick Tandy, Neel Jani and André Lotterer clocked the fastest time, while the title contenders in the other classes all secured respectable spots on the starting grid. The race kicks off tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. local time (1:00 p.m. in the U.K.).

Pole position was clinched by the #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Nick Tandy, Neel Jani and André Lotterer. With a cumulative time of 1:39.383, Tandy and Jani qualified ahead of the #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid and the second Porsche, the #2 (only six-tenths of a second separate these three cars).

• Nick Tandy and Neel Jani seal pole with average of 1m39.383s

• Third pole of season for #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid in final outing for car

• Toyota place second as Mike Conway and José Maria Lopez combine but miss out on pole by 0.268

• #2 Porsche of champions Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley place third

• #8 Toyota TS 050 HYBRID starts fourth as Davidson and Nakajima qualify

The status of the LMP2 class is just as suspenseful. The best time was clocked by Signatech Alpine Matmut's #36 Alpine A470-Gibson driven by André Negrão and Gustavo Menezes ahead of Jackie Chan DC Racing's #38 ORECA 07-Gibson and Vaillante Rebellion's #31 ORECA 07-Gibson, in other words, precisely the three cars in the battle for the FIA Endurance LMP2 Teams trophy. Tomorrow promises one heck of a race!

It was a fine performance form the Brazilian/U.S. alliance as they swept to a 1m47.227s average to claim the pole by 0.3s. Menezes has an outside chance of taking back-to-back titles but with a 22-point deficit looks likely to have to rely on good fortune. Lining up second and third in the class will be the title protagonists, the #31 Vaillante Rebellion and #38 Jackie Chan DC Racing entries. Bruno Senna and Julien Canal have a four point advantage heading in to the race tomorrow over Oliver Jarvis, Thomas Laurent and Ho-Pin Tung.

• LMP2 pole goes to Signatech Alpine as Andre Negrão and Gustavo Menezes combine to take third pole position of season with an average of 1m47.227

• #38 Jackie Chan DC Racing title chasers start second

• Title leaders Bruno Senna and Julien Canal in #31 Vaillante Rebellion entry start right behind rivals in third as they have four point advantage

In the LMGTE Pro class, the pole went to AF Corse's #71 Ferrari 488 GTE, nabbing one point in the championship. Davide Rigon and Sam Bird are still in the running for the World GT Drivers Champion title. The #71 is ahead of the #97 Aston Martin Vantage, the British marque having an easy time of it in Bahrain so far, and the #67 Ford GT. Davide Rigon and Sam Bird took their fourth pole position of the 2017 FIA WEC campaign to ensure that Rigon’s slight title chances remained.

• The #71 AF Corse Ferrari took the pole with an average of 1m56.033s; Rigon set a sensational best outright lap of 1m47.058 to set a new qualifying record in class with the Ferrari 488GTE

• Lining up alongside the Ferrari will be the #97 Aston Martin Vantage V8 GTE as it bows out this weekend after a glorious WEC career

• Darren Turner and Jonny Adam set an average of 1m56.372s, while the #67 Ford GT of duo Andy Priaulx and Harry Tincknell placed third, as the British pair set about hunting down title rivals - James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi - who start just one place behind in their #51 AF Corse Ferrari

• Porsche duo Frederic Makowiecki and Richard Lietz finished sixth as they look to reduce the two point deficit to Calado and Pier Guidi in the points table

The car in the lead of the LMGTE Am Teams trophy fight is the #98 Aston Martin Vantage, clocking the fastest time and taking another point, significant in terms of winning the championship. It is ahead of Clearwater Racing's #61 Ferrari 488 GTE and Dempsey Proton-Racing's #77 Porsche 911 RSR, so the three contenders for the title are in the top three spots!

• Pedro Lamy and Paul Dalla Lana take seventh pole position from nine races and extend lead in title stakes to 11 points; Lamy and Dalla Lana set average lap time of 2m00.111s, with Lamy peaking on category best of 1m59.328s

• Close session sees Clearwater Racing miss out on pole by just 0.17s as Weng Sun Mok and Matt Griffin set an average of 2m00.285s in their Ferrari 488GTE

• Dempsey Proton Racing starts third as Christian Ried, Matteo Cairoli and Marvin Dienst look to reduce 11 point gap to #98 Aston Martin drivers
