For its first appearance in Germany since its inception in 2012, the World Endurance Championship will mark the latest episode of the Porsche-Audi duel in LM P1. After the first three races, Porsche scored three pole positions and, even better, a one-two at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But it is still Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer, Audi's top trio, who have the lead in the provisional driver standings after their wins at Silverstone and at Spa-Francorchamps. In LM P2, Chinese team KCMG will arrive in Germany in the lead in the class after its victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and will continue its triangular battle with G-Drive Racing's two Ligier JS P2s. But the return of Strakka Racing, with its three competitive Zytek chassis, could shake things up.

Since 2012, the 24 Hours of Le Mans has been for Ferrari the occasion to make a move for the LM GTE Pro and LM GTE Am titles. Ferrari holds the top spot in all the standings (constructors, drivers and teams) in the two classes, but will have to face big competition in Aston Martin, Porsche and Corvette. In LM GTE Am, "Grey's Anatomy" fans will closely follow how Patrick Dempsey's No. 77 Porsche 911 is doing.
