The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) will be visiting the Eifel mountain circuit in Germany for the very first time this year, in place of the Brazil round which has been temporarily removed from the calendar due to the major works under way at the Interlagos track. The teams have taken up Toyota Racing’s invitation to prepare for the fourth leg of the WEC season with no fewer than 20 cars expected to grace the Nürburgring tarmac on 27 and 28 July.
All three constructors in the running for the World Championship title – Audi, winner of the season’s first two races, Porsche, who recently claimed the 24 Hours of Le Mans title, and reigning champions Toyota – will be putting one of their cars through its paces, as will the ByKolles team.
Six LM P2 cars will also be out on the track: three Ligier JS P2s (G-Drive Racing and Extreme Speed Motorsports), one Gibson (Strakka Racing), one Morgan (Team SARD Morand) and Le Mans class winner KCMG’s Oreca 05.
In LM GTE Pro, Ferrari and Porsche will be bringing two cars each, while Aston Martin will be testing one Vantage in this class, plus another in LM GTE Am alongside privateers such as Dempsey-Proton Racing, class runner-up at Le Mans last month. Actor-driver Patrick Dempsey will in fact be present at the Nürburgring along with his team-mates.
Other drivers to feature during the two days of tests include current World Endurance Champions Anthony Davidson and Sébastien Buemi, three-times Le Mans winners André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer, and Nick Tandy, one of the trio at the wheel of this year’s winning Porsche.
The two days of testing will be open free of charge to the public from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
