Win record-holder at the 24 Hours of Le Mans since 1985, Porsche is also a titan at the N
By a great scheduling coincidence, the Nürburgring will make its first appearance in the Championship in the wake of the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year. At Le Mans, the German manufacturer has so far racked up 17 wins between 1970 and 2015, and has competed in the race without fail since 1951. Created in 1953, the 1,000 km race at the Nürburgring was won by Porsche 12 times between 1967 and 2010. The great 20 km long "North Loop" ("Nordschleife" in German) is also the site of the 24-hour race which Porsche won 11 times between 1976 and 2011. In all, the German marque has 23 wins on one of the most legendary motorsports stages in the world.
Among the drivers of its 919 Hybrid prototype, two have won at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Nürburgring. At the 24 Hours, Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas set a new distance record in 2010 and have won together four times at the Nordschleife. Dumas' teammate in the No. 18 919 Hybrid, Marc Lieb, holds the lap record for a series sportscar, with a time of 6 min. 57 s. at the wheel of the 918 Spyder. He also has four wins at the 24 Hours Nürburgring...all shared with Dumas and Bernhard.
Fourth round of the 2015 World Endurance Championship, the 6 Hours of Nürburgring will take place August 30th.
