WEC - Porsche's LM P1 program loses its Technical Director

The trio that brought to life the Porsche 919 Hybrid that won at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year is losing one of its members - Technical Director Alexander Hitzinger has decided to move on.

Alexander Hitzinger was working with Red Bull Racing in F1 just prior to becoming the first person hired by Fritz Enzinger, Porsche LM P1 Vice President. First responsible for the project management of "Mission 2014" then the development of the LM P1 program, the German will assume the title of Technical Director once the design of the Porsche 919 is completed.

After having scored a one-two at Le Mans in 2015, beating its own win record at the 24 Hours, and earning the titles of World Endurance Drivers Champion (Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber) and Constructors Champion (Porsche), "Alex" Hitzinger has chosen to take on another challenge outside of motorsports and will part ways with the German manufacturer on March 31st, before the beginning of the 2016 season at Silverstone in the U.K. on April 17th. The name of his successor will be announced at a later date.

Fritz Enzinger, LM P1 Vice President: "On behalf of Porsche I want to thank Alexander Hitzinger very much for his huge contribution to the outstanding successes of the Porsche 919 Hybrid. He was one of the first people to come on board at the end of 2011. I appreciate his desire for a new challenge. We are well prepared for the 2016 season. Within our team, which has a total of 260 employees, we also have a remarkably strong group of engineers working for the management team. The 2016 Porsche 919 Hybrid is ready to go!"
