René Rast, is anything but an unknown. An official Audi Sport driver since 2012, he has won several important races like the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and the 24 Hours of Spa (2014) at the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS.
The 29-year-old is also familiar with prototype endurance racing. Indeed, he competed in the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans at the wheel of the Oreca 03R with the Sébastien Loeb Racing team along with Jan Charouz and Vincent Capillaire (fourth in the class). Last year, he drove the third official Audi R18 e-tron quattro with Filipe Albuquerque and Marco Bonanomi, finishing seventh overall after having been in the lead.
The Oreca 05's three drivers will head to Spain in a few days to conduct some test sessions, then on March 25th and 26th they will be at the Circuit Paul Ricard at Le Castellet for the official tests of the World Endurance Championship known as the Prologue.
G-Drive Racing will enter two cars in the 24 Hours of Le Mans: the No. 26 Oreca 05-Nissan of Roman Rusinov-René Rast-Nathanaël Berthon and the No. 38 Gibson 015S-Nissan of Simon Dolan-Giedo Van Der Garde-Jake Dennis as a result of a partnership entered into with Jota Sport.
René Rast: "I am super happy to be joining G-Drive Racing in LM P2 this season. The ingredients, including the team, the proven chassis and engine, and my team mates gives me a lot of confidence entering the program this year. An LM P2 car was the first prototype I drove back in 2014 and I am very much enjoying re-acquainting myself with the category. This year looks like it will be a special one for the class, so I am personally very much looking forward to the challenge ahead. I would specifically like to thank Audi Sport and Pole Promotion for their support with this opportunity."
