WEC - The 2017 6 Hours of Nürburgring program

This weekend is the 6 Hours of Nürburgring, the fourth round on the 2017 World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) calendar, a little more than a month after the championship's main event, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Here's a sort of amuse-bouche of the classes before the actual race.

The same as last year, the German round of the championship will take place mid-July, whereas the first year of its inclusion on the calendar competitors had to wait until the end of August to make their return after their three-week break in the wake of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Though forecasted temps are expected to remain below 20°C and the track should remain dry for the free practice and qualifying sessions, rain might still be on the menu on Sunday with showers entirely possbile despite the higher temperatures. At the Nürburgring, nothing is ever a given...in the same vein as Spa-Francorchamps. However, unlike at the circuit in the Belgian Ardennes mountains, when the track is wet at the Nürburgring, it is wet across the entire circuit.

Set-ups will prove a bit challenging for the teams even though drivers will swear they're the same for everyone! They will have the opportunity to get to know the track on foot or bike on Thursday, July 13th while their cars submit to technical checks. Things get real on Friday, July 14th with two 90-minute free practice sessions at 11:35 a.m. then 4:05 p.m. local time.

After the final 60-minute session on Saturday morning, spectators will have access to pit lane during the pit walk from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. before the cars take part in 20-minute qualifying sessions. Cars in the LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am classes will kick things off at 2:55 p.m., followed by the LMP1 and LMP2 classes at 3:25 p.m.

Prior to the race on Sunday, the public will once again have access to pit lane for an hour as of 8:00 a.m., just before the autograph session in the paddock from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., then the start of the six-hour race will be given at 1:00 p.m. local time.
