It is often said the 24 Hours of Le Mans is won in the pits, but actually that's true for most races. Quite often, the winner is the one who spends the least amount of time in the pits. To win back a second on the track can be very challenging, so it's easier to make up that second during pit stops.
When nothing is taking place on the track, one can observe several times a day surprising choreography in pit lane when all members of the team involved in refuellings, including the drivers, are training. These stops are crucial, as explained by Mark Webber, official Porsche driver and winner at the last three rounds of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), in this video.
