First let's set the scene! Porsche, winner of a one-two at the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Toyota, World Endurance Constructors Champion, will present their respective cars for the 2016 season on March 24th at Le Castellet. Toyota will go first with the new TS 050 Hybrid and will therefore be in "pole position" so to speak, as highlighted by Porsche's first tweet.
Then followed an exchange of tweets ripe with humour and a bet was put on the table by Toyota: if the Toyota TS050 Hybrid clinches the pole at Silverstone, opening round of the 2016 World Endurance Championship (WEC) season, the Porsche team will bring the sushi and if a Porsche 919 Hybrid snatches the pole, Toyota will bring on the sausages!
This duel shows that in endurance, even though the competition reaches a fever pitch on the track, particularly at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a good rapport is the way of things in the paddock. The WEC has even launched a poll about the poleman at Silverstone!
