What Pierre Ragues (Alpine) enjoys the most at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

French driver Pierre Ragues is a regular competitor at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with already 11 participations to his credit, including this year's edition at the wheel of the Signatech Alpine Matmut team's #35 Alpine A470-Gibson, shared with Nelson Panciatici and André Negrão. After a respectable race, the trio finished in fourth place overall and reached the podium in the LMP2 class (third). In this interview, he talks about some of his favorite moments at Le Mans.

Which do you prefer...

...the start or the finish?
"I prefer the start because the finish always scares me. The car often makes quite a lot of noise, you feel like it's going to break down. Also, when you take the start there is plenty of adrenaline, all the excitement surrounding the event, the crowd."

...the first, second or third stint?
"I admit that if I don't take the start, I like the third stint the most. By then the strategy is more fleshed out since the race is ongoing, you have a better point of reference and the track has improved. I also like to see what my teammates have done so I can gauge myself and find my rhythm."

...Scrutineering or the Drivers' Parade?
"That's a tough choice. I think I'll say the Parade, it's really an enjoyable event. It's wild to be a rock star for two hours (laughs, Ed.). It's pretty insane, and also a bit long."

...sunrise or sunset?
"I prefer the sunrise because a good amount of the race is behind you and also because I'm more of a morning person!"

...a few hours of sleep during the night of the 24 Hours of Le Mans or pulling an all-nighter?
"I'm more the type to sleep as often as I can. Even if I get out of the car at 10 in the morning, I sleep until noon. I enjoy sleeping too much, and with a race such as this, I miss it a lot (laughs, Ed.)."

...a massage or a meal just after a stint?
"That's not always my decision, the physical therapist has a say. The best order is meal then massage."

...the Indianapolis corner or the Porsche curves?
"It's hard to pick between the two, but I'll say Indianapolis. That corner is truly the spirit of the 24 Hours of Le Mans to me! It's on a road that people can drive on every day whereas the Porsche curves are closed the rest of the year."

...a dry or wet track?
"Dry track! It's not that rain bothers me, but it does come with considerable risks and creates unpredictable side effects, it's better for watering the garden (laughs, Ed.)!"

...foot races or bicycle races to prepare for the 24 Hours of Le Mans?
"I prefer running because it's better preparation than biking for me. Also, for biking to be effective, you have to do it for at least three hours and I just don't have that kind of time during the week (he is a Silver driver, meaning amateur, Ed.).

Now Pierre Ragues is gearing up for the 6 Hours of Nürburgring in Germany, fourth round of the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC).
