Wolf Henzler (Porsche): "Le Mans, a race everyone knows!"

The official Porsche Motorsport driver in GT will support the KCMG team this year in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Driven by Christian Ried and Jo

How has the beginning of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) season gone?
"I have to admit it's all new to me this year. It's my first full World Endurance Championship season. But I know the Proton team well since I have already done a few races with them. I even won at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with them, in 2010, in the LM GTE Pro class. On the other hand, I am more used to the American championship, I spent 11 years in the U.S., but I'm happy to be in the World Endurance Championship. There's a lot to learn: the format of the races, two-driver qualifying, the slow zones, the full race yellow, etc. For now everything is going well and I'm having fun. We finished fourth in the LM GTE Am class at Silverstone, that's a satisfying result. Now, I'm focused on Spa-Francorchamps and then the 24 Hours of Le Mans!»

How is it going joining the KCMG team who was in the LM P2 last year?
"It is all also new to me so it's hard to talk about. I know KCMG is more used to prototypes and won in the LM P2 class at Le Mans in 2015. Now they're in LM GTE and I'm driving for them. It's a good team, I feel good and am getting used to the members of the team, getting to know one of my teammates, Joël Camathias. I knew his name but had never met him. As for Christian Ried, I know him well as I have already been teammates with him."

In a few weeks will be the "big event," the 24 Hours of Le Mans...and your eighth participation. What do you keep in mind relative to your past experiences?
"My best moment was certainly my victory with the Team Felbermayr-Proton team in the Porsche 997 GT3 RSR (LM GTE Pro) with Marc Lieb and Richard Lietz in 2010. Also, my first participation at Le Mans. It was with Alex Davidon and Horst Felbermayr Senior in 2008, already in a Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Team Felbermayr-Proton (fifth in GT2, editor's note). I will always remember that race because the first time at the 24 Hours of Le Mans is always something very special. Even when I was racing in the U.S. and couldn't participate, a lot of people over there talk about Le Mans. It's a race everyone knows!"

This year, you will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the KCMG team in the LM GTE Am class. What are your expectations?
"Our first goal will be to do the race and make it to the finish. Like all professional drivers, I enter a race to win it, that will be my second goal! As usual, the race will be difficult, there will be a lot of battles and gaps will be tight. Meanwhile, so many things can happen and that's why it's mainly important to finish the race."
