24 Hours of Le Mans – The battle for victory in LMP2 more fierce than ever in 2021

Last year, United Autosports confirmed its status as a top contender and dominated the LMP2 class. Will the team be able to do the same in 2021 given the caliber of competition?

The United Autsports team recorded a truly stellar season last year: LMP2 class winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and winner of the FIA Endurance and European Le Mans Series Teams and Drivers Trophies, and recipient of no less than five invitations to the 89th 24 Hours of Le Mans on 21-22 August. The team founded by Zak Brown (also CEO of McLaren Racing) will field three ORECA 07-Gibsons currently recognized as the car to beat.

United Autosports' domination is all the more impressive given the intense level of competition in the LMP2 class which boasts several contenders for victory. The teams are all top notch and boast A-list drivers: JOTA, G-Drive Racing, Racing Team Nederland, Team WRT, Realteam Racing, Panis Racing, Duqueine Team, IDEC SPORT Racing and DragonSpeed have all proven themselves capable of giving United Autosports a run for its money. Additionally, this winter these teams recruited drivers known for their speed. JOTA hired fromer McLaren driver in Formula 1 Stoffel Vandoorne. Swiss team Realteam Racing will entrust its ORECA 07-Gibson to Loïc Duval, winner at the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans with Audi and future Hypercar driver with Peugeot. For the European Le Mans Series as for the FIA WEC, Team WRT is welcoming an impressive list of representatives: Robert Kubica (former F1 driver), Louis Delétraz (fourth at the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans with Rebellion Racing) and Ferdinand Habsburg (2021 Asian Le Mans Series winner with G-Drive Racing). And last but not least, the all-female line-up of Richard Mille Racing Team taking on its second season in endurance racing and relying on a highly talented development team (Signatech).

Paul di Resta, United Autosports driver and LMP2 winner at the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans, discusses the team's main rivals in this video below:
