24 Hours of Le Mans - The lowdown on Qualifying 1

We’ve crunched the numbers from the first qualifying session yesterday.

3:17.161: fastest lap, clocked by Kamui Kobayashi (#7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid, Toyota Gazoo Racing)

31.049: fastest first timing sector, by Thomas Laurent (#3 Rebellion R13-Gibson, Rebellion Racing), ahead of the #7 Toyota

Kamui Kobayashi (Toyota Gazoo Racing #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid) was quickest in the first two sections of the circuit. However, Thomas Laurent (Rebellion Racing #3 Rebellion R13 - Gibson) went faster in the first section, between the start line and the top of the Mulsanne Straight. If Kobayashi had gone as fast as Laurent in that section, he would have clocked a lap in 03:16.621.

347.8 kph: the best top speed, by Vitaly Petrov in the SMP Racing #11 BR Engineering BR1-AER.

The non-hybrid SMP Racing BR Engineering BR1 - AERs were impressive and looked capable of taking Saturday’s pole position.   Other impressive top speeds were recorded by Stéphane Sarrazin in the other SMP Racing BR ENGINEERING BR1 - AER (#17), on 347.8 kph. André Lotterer in the Rebellion R13 - Gibson also clocked over 340 kph.

28 laps: the most laps completed in the session, by the Corvette Racing #63 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R.

However, the Toyota Gazoo Racing camp was busy too, with 27 laps for the #8 and 22 for the #7. 

4 seconds: is all there is to choose between the top 17 LMP2s

298.8 kph: best top speed achieved by three LMGTE Pros
