For two days, 200 volunteers took part in a refresher course in extrication practices. The seminar was a joint effort between the Fédération Française du Sport Automobile (FFSA) and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), with the support of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). In the world of motorsport, Le Mans is always at the forefront of safety and extrication measures. "There were 11 French teams and 11 from places like the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Spain and Portugal," explained Mathieu Navarre, the Le Mans circuit track chief.

The goal of the training sessions was to communicate new methods of extrication since they evolve every year, especially in function of the cars entered into competition. The workshop allows volunteers to keep their skills honed at the highest level. Speakers on hand were Dr. Dominique Vivier (the head of medical at the Bugatti circuit) and Dr. Jean-Jacques Isermann (creator of the extrication technique and special delegate of the president of the FIA Medical Commission), as well as Eduardo Freitas (World Endurance Championship Race Director) and Yannick Dalmas (who serves as an FIA security advisor). Several doctors across multiple racing disciplines like rally and Formula E, and the head of medical at the Bahrain International Circuit were also at the training.

The volunteers trained on cars lent by teams, such as two Ligier JSP2s (Onroak Automotive), Formula E (Dams), F4 (FFSA Academy), rally simulators (FIA) and Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, eight teams of six experts cover the duration of the race.
