What is it like to race with a 100% Danish driver line-up?
Christoffer Nygaard, driver of No.95 Aston Martin Racing Aston Martin Vantage V8 : "It's cool to have a 100% Danish car here with good chances for a good result. Having a 100% Danish entry was also something our investor and team-boss Jan Strube emphasized - a Danish car with Danish support and at least some Danish sponsors, to increase the interest in Denmark."
How important is Le Mans to Danish race fans?
Christoffer: "One of the things you hear from the fans back home that Le Mans is great because you buy one ticket, but can get to almost all parts of the track. Having 25,000 Danes here obviously puts pressure on, but that is also what makes it such a fantastic experience. We run the entire WEC series, butt this is definitely the highlight, and with all the Danes coming down here simply sets the stage. The sea of danish flags - no matter who wins, it's such a gentle kind of enthusiasm. It is a peoples party - everybody just have a party, and everybody gets on with one another."
It also must be great to drive the most beautiful car in the world ?
Christoffer: "Yes!, - before this team was constructed, I was asked which car I would prefer to drive, and I must say have become an Aston Man - it quite simply is the most beautiful car. I compare it a little to James Bond's company car :-) And with the legendary Gulf colours it's even more evocative. Aston Martin Racing has done a fantastic job to get us to this stage, so well prepared and ready."
What is it like to drive at Le Mans?
Christoffer: "When I started racing, we both had shared the dream of racing at Le Mans, which we see as the highest of all sport-car races. Jan has given me the opportunity to develop myself as a racing driver to a level where I can be here and be competitive, for which I am deeply grateful. Obviously I hope to pay him back with a nice trophy some day. Just being at Le Mans has an aura - when we came last year I hadn't been there in 2011, so having been away, and then come back is magic - I had almost forgotten how fantastic this track is. The feeling when you make that last bend at Tertre Rouge on your way to the Mulsanne Straight is fantastic and so full of aura. I remember the first time I drove here in 2010 where I almost had tears in my eyes by the realisation of the dream of driving on this historic track. An overwhelming feeling of having arrived, - “now you are here, this is it, the historic and fabulous Le Mans circuit. My favourite places are probably the Porsche curves and Indianapolis - you arrive at both at high speed, and if you get the flow right, it simply defines sportscar racing for me. Driving straight ahead is something anyone can do, but tackling corners at that speed, constantly on the limit - that gives the adrenaline rush we live off.
The fact that parts of the track is public road also makes it great for racing drivers, because often when you drive on a nice piece of road you imagine how nice that would feel if it was a racetrack, and you were driving your racingcar - here it becomes that once a year, - you still have the lines on the road and some roadsigns, but you're actually driving your racecar, and you've got it all for yourself!"
