Corvette C8.R makes official début at the Roar Before the 24

With three weeks to go before the 24 Hours of Daytona (25–26 January 2002), the field took to the track for three official test days. It was the first time out in racing conditions for the Corvette Racing C8.R.

Like 24 Hours of Le Mans Test Day, the Roar Before the 24 offers teams an opportunity to test the track ahead of the big day. Many seize the chance to show off and quash opponents’ morale with their sparkling form. The C8.R looked very much at home in the Daytona environment. The #4 driven by Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler clocked the third-best time in its class and the #3 crewed by Nicky Catsburg, Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor chalked up the seventh fastest qualifying time. Both cars completed an impressive 341 laps (some 1,900 kilometres). The Corvette C8.R will make another grand entrance at the next round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin on 23 February.

Meanwhile, the next track action at the 24 Hours of Daytona is on 23 January for the free practice session before the race itself from 14:00 local time (20:00 CET) on Saturday 25 January. The world-famous event is the first round of the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
