DC Racing Ligier-Nissan wins Road To Le Mans

LM P3s and GT3s faced off earlier today for the Road To Le Mans race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit. The race was won by the DC Racing Ligier-Nissan.

Charlie Robertson in the #32 Ginetta-Nissan P3-15 dominated the early part of the race, but his teammate Lawrence Tomlinson spun at the Dunlop chicane, allowing the #85 DC Racing Ligier-Nissan JSP3 to take the lead.  From that point, Thomas Laurent stayed out in front until the chequered flag. Laurent, partnering Alexandre Cougnaud, has now added the Road To Le Mans title to the Karting KZ2 world champion crown clinched a few months ago.

The #2 United Autosports Ligier-Nissan JSP3 driven by Christian England and Martin Brundle finished second, 16 seconds behind. For Brundle, it meant a return to the Le Mans podium 26 years after winning the 24 Hours at the wheel of a Jaguar XJR-12. The #77 Ligier-Nissan JSP3 fielded by the Graff team and driven by John Falb took third place.

In the GT3 class, the #88 Porsche Mentos Racing driven by Perfetti and Bachler was the comfortable leader at the start of the race, but received a ten-second penalty for exceeding the pit lane speed limit. The #57 AF Corse Ferrari driven by Aleksey Basov and Victor Shaitar took class victory.

Note that Jacques Nicolet, winner of the 2016 Spirit Of Le Mans trophy, took part in the race at the wheel of a Ligier-Nissan JSP3, shared with his son Pierre. The father-son combination finished 8th, 49 seconds behind the leader.
