Ecurie Francorchamps Ferrari Daytona from the 1973 24 Hours of Le Mans unveiled (video)

In 1973, the Ecurie Francorchamps team entered a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In all, 11 Ferrari Daytonas competed that year, with as best result a win in the GTS class...here's a closer look.

Initially, the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 was not destined to compete, but Luigi Chinetti - an American dealer and the owner of the North American Racing Team (NART) - transformed the 12467 chassis by reducing the weight via aluminum in order to enter the car in endurance races. Ferrari ended up producing 15 units thereafter called "Daytona."

In this video, the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 (#16425 chassis) was entered by the Ecurie Francorchamps (a team present at the 24 Hours of Le Mans between 1953 and 1982, absent only four times) in the GTS 5.0 class. It was powered by a Ferrari 4.4L V12 engine, with 450 hp, boasting the number 34. Jean-Claude Andruet (19 participations, four-time class winner) and Richard Bond (five appearances at Le Mans between 1972 and 1978) were the drivers.

After qualifying, the car was in 31st position on the starting grid in a time of 4'18.900, which would have put it in 60th position at the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans! At the checkered flag, the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 finished 20th overall.

Enjoy this stunning car and be sure to turn up the volume and listen to the inimitable V12!
