Going into this final round of the 2020 European Le Mans Series, some competitors were aiming for a first win or to finish this unpredictable year on the highest note possible, while others were focused on securing the title in their class or a second place finish in the championship to earn an invitation to the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans on 12-13 June.
Five invitations were available by the close of the season: two in LMP2, two in LMGTE and one in LMP3. Before this weekend's 4 Hours of Portimão, United Autosports' #22 had already clinched the top spot in LMP2 in the championship. Four hours later, the team capped off a stunning year by claiming second place in the class thanks to pole-sitter #32, winning the title in LMP3 and earning a new invitation to 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans. G-Drive Racing ended the year with a victory for the #26.
In the LMGTE class and overall, Proton Compétition's #77 and Kessel Racing's #74 finished first and second, earning them both invitations to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June 2021.
