ELMS – G-Drive Racing takes pole position at the 4 Hours of Barcelona

The first qualifying session of the 2021 European Le Mans Series saw G-Drive Racing's #26 Aurus 01-Gibson secure the first pole of the season. The start at the 4 Hours of Barcelona will be given on Sunday at 11:00 local time.

Nyck de Vries, at the wheel of G-Drive Racing's #26 Aurus 01-Gibson, has clinched the first pole position of the season at the 4 Hours of Barcelona. The Dutch driver clocked the fastest time ahead of Orlen Team WRT's #41 ORECA 07-Gibson driven by Louis Delétraz. Roman Rusinov (teammates with de Vries and Franco Colapinto): "Nyck did fantastic work. He's the man to beat. It is very gratifying to have this pole position as it earns us a first point in the championship classification. Barcelona is a very important circuit for us." Panis Racing's #65 ORECA 07-Gibson entrusted to Will Stevens scored the third spot on the starting grid.

In LMP3, Duncan Tappy secured the pole at the wheel of United Autosports' #3 Ligier JS P320-Nissan. However, the lead on RLR MSport's #15 Ligier JS P320-Nissan is only 21 thousandths of a second. Andrew Bentley (teammates with Duncan Tappy and James McGuire): "The LMP3 class is very competitive. You can't leave anything to chance and have to feel comfortable at the wheel. Duncan basically flew during qualifying. It's wonderful to place the car in pole position."

In LMGTE, Gianmaria Bruni driving Proton Competition's #77 Porsche 911 RSRS-19 scored the top spot in his final lap ahead of Iron Lynx's #80 Ferrari F488 GTE Evo entrusted to Miguel Molina. The #83 Ferrari of the all-female line-up Rahel Frey, Michelle Gatting and Esmee Hawkey rounded out the top 3. Jaxon Evans (teammate of Gianmaria Bruni): "It's a fantastic way to start. We couldn't have hoped for better. I am thrilled to join Proton Competition, last year's LMGTE class champion. I am going to give my all to get the best result possible."
