Fernando Alonso's first stint at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

The two-time F1 world champion took the wheel for his first-ever stint at the 24 Hours of Le Mans today at 17:30. Here are his thoughts on his first laps in the race.

How did your first stint at the 24 Hours of Le Mans go?

"Very well. We did a lot of laps during the free practice and qualifying sessions with more or less traffic, but now it's the race and you have to pay close attention to every detail. We want to keep the car in one piece. We're also more careful in pit lane during stops. We'd like everything to continue going well. The two cars are increasing the gap with the third car. It was a good stint but we have a long way to go."

Why two changes to the rear bodywork?

"The team was worried after the start when a Rebellion made contact with the rear of our car. No damage was detected during our first stints but for safety reasons, we changed that part out. During a pit stop, we simply went back to the original."

Toyota is dominating, with a battle raging between its two lead cars. Isn't that a dangerous game?

"No, it's all under control! We lost a little time during a pit stop and I returned to the track 14 seconds behind Pechito (José María López, Ed.). Thanks to the traffic - which can help or hinder - I caught up to him. There was a flat tire, then the safety car was deployed and we found ourselves blocked at the exit of pit lane. It will be like this the duration of the race. Depending on circumstances, luck will favor one or the other of the two cars."
