This was the car’s second time out, having made its maiden race appearance at Daytona in January. The venue for the 6-hour race was the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Experienced drivers Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller finished sixth in the LMGTE Pro class. Aside from the so-so result, the race provided plenty of useful data for the team engineers to pore over with a view to improving the car for the forthcoming races on the WEC and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship calendars. Fuel consumption, engine performance, tyres and settings were all on the checklists.

Jan Magnussen: Obviously we were very far off the pace, but we have learned and taken things away from this experience with the new Corvette. For sure we were down on power but there are other areas where we can improve. In a race like this, you have a chance to play around a little bit with different setups and you can try some different things… look at what other teams are doing, how the other cars are handling, where they are strong and where we need to be stronger. As tough as this race was, I’m excited for Sebring. It should be better with the things we’ve taken away from this weekend.

Super Sebring 2020 will be the next stage in Corvette’s development process. The team will be lining up for the FIA WEC 1000 Miles on 20 March, followed by the 12 Hours the next day, in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. They also hope to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 13-14 June 2020.
