TOYOTA GAZOO Racing's #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid won this weekend's 6 Hours of Fuji, second round of the 2019-2020 FIA World Endurance Championship season. Racing Team Nederland, Aston Marting Racing and TF Sport won the LMP2, LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am classes respectively.
This year's 6 Hours of Fuji marked the 60th race of the FIA World Endurance Championship since its inception in 2012. The #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid shared by Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley claimed the top step on the overall podium. This win means the Japanese manufacturer is undefeated at the Fuji Speedway since 2016. The other Toyota TS050 Hybrid, the #7 driven by Conway/Kobayahi/Lopez, finished second trailing by 33 seconds. The podium was rounded out by the #1 Rebellion R13 of Bruno Senna, Gustavo Menezes and Norman Nato.
The end of the race was a bit of nail-biter in the LMP2 class. Thanks to a stunning final stint for Dutch driver Nyck de Vries, the #29 ORECA 07-Gibson fielded by Racing Team Nederland won with only a 25-second advance on Jota's #38 ORECA 07-Gibson. Jackie DC Chan Racing's #37 ORECA 07-Gibson finished third in the class.
In LMGTE Pro, the #95 Aston Martin Vantage AMR of Aston Martin Racing shared by Marco Sorensen and Nicki Thiim reached the top step on the podium. Porsche GT Team's #92 Porsche 919 RSR-19 finished second 17 seconds later and the other Aston Martin Vantage AMR, the #97, took third place.
In LMGTE Am, TF Sport's #90 Aston Martin Vantage triumphed thanks to drivers Salih Yoluc, Charlie Eastwood and Jonathan Adam, ahead of AF Corse's #83 Ferrari 488 GTE EVO and Team Project 1's #57 Porsche 911 RSR-19.
The next round on the FIA WEC calendar is the 4 Hours of Shanghai on Sunday 10 November.
