Unlike the start at the European Le Mans Series 4 Hours of Silverstone yesterday, the start at the first round of Season 8 of the FIA Endurance Championship today at noon took place in much more manageable weather conditions. The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing team ended up clinching a one-two, with the #7 ahead of the #8, after a smooth race despite a half hour downpour and interventions by the safety car. The LMP1 podium was rounded out by the #3 Rebellion.
The Cool Racing team claimed the top step on the LMP2 podium thanks to the duo Lapierre-Borga. Their teammate Alexandre Coigny was forced to withdraw from the FIA WEC round with an injury incurred yesterday during his accident in the ELMS race.
The LMGTE Pro class was won by the 911 RSR-19 (for its first appearance) driven by Bruni-Lietz, and the win in LMGTE Am went to the #83 Ferrari.
During the starting grid procedure at the 4 Hours of Silverstone, the world of endurance racing paid a one-minute moment of silence tribute to Anthoine Hubert who was brutally killed the day before at Spa.
The next round of Season 8 of the FIA WEC is the 6 Hours of Fuji on 6 October.
