Fifth hour: Mark Webber (Porsche) steps up the pace

The Australian is going all-out to give the #1 Porsche a more comfortable lead over the #6 Toyota fielded byToyota Gazoo Racing and the Ford GTs are currently head and shoulders above their opponents in LM GTE Pro.

The #1 Porsche 919 Hybrid by Porsche Team is still in the lead by a whisker, ahead of Toyota Gazoo Racing’s #6 Toyota. There is a thirty-second gap between the two, who take turns to lead the race. Mark Webber has stepped us the pace. At 19:53 the Australian driver clocked a lap at 03:21.816 - a new race lap record. The #8 Audi R18 fielded by Audi Sport Team Joest is hanging back and observing the leaders from a distance. Lucas Di Grassi, Loïc Duval and Oliver Jarvis (currently at the wheel) are 53 seconds behind the #1 Porsche.

Dumas, Jani and Lieb in the #2 Porsche 919 Hybrid stand fourth. The #5 Toyota in fifth seems in difficulty.

In LM P2, Manor’s #44 Oreca-Nissan conceded the lead after Matthew Rao span off in the Dunlop chicane. Thiriet by TDS Racing’s #46 Oreca-Nissan is now first, followed by the #36 Alpine and the #47 Oreca-Nissan.

Once again, the LM GTE Pro class provides plenty of entertainment. The Ford GTs are living up to expectations. The #68 with Joe Hand, Dirk Müller and Sébastien Bourdais at the wheel tops the field, one second ahead of the #69. Risi Competizione’s #82 Ferrari is five seconds later.

Just before 19:00, Marc Miller in Proton Competition’s #89 Porsche came off in the Dunlop chicane and has not resumed the race. Also in LM GTE Am, Abu Dhabi-Proton Racing’s #88 Porsche is in front, with #78 by KCMG in second place, followed by Aston Martin Racing’s #99.
