Ginetta showing great strides at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
The Ginetta LMP1s powered by Mecachrome have demonstrated noticeable improvement over the last two days of free practice and qualifying sessions. According to team owner Graeme Lowdown, after a challenging early season, the CEFC TRSM Racing team is ready to go.
The beginning of the season wasn't easy. Can you give us an update?
"Let's say we had some business-related challenges. Things we had no control over that have caused us to come to Le Mans a bit on the defensive. We've been catching up since the start of the week as you can see on the timesheets. We've made constant progress since the first session, so that's good. Things are exactly great right now, but the Super Season is long."
Your current concern is the engine…
"From a mechanical standpoint, it's clear speed is key. We are among the fastest in the Porsche Curves and Ford Chicane, which shows the quality of the Ginetta chassis. Only Toyota is ahead of us but we're missing top speed. What's making things even more difficult this year are the restrictions on how the engine should operate to match the hybrid LMP1s."
"[Our goal is] to make it to the checkered flag!"
Graeme Lowdon
Are you paying for the lack of kilometers covered during the off-season?
"Mechanically, the Ginetta is a beautiful piece of machinery. With a little more time on the track, we could have fine-tuned our set-ups, but it's really our speed in the straights that is holding us back. To describe it in calendar terms so everyone will understand, it's as if we had just finished our winter testing sessions. We're a bit behind, but we're here! I think that between now and Silverstone, we'll be back in the swing of things. That's the goal."
What is your goal at the 24 Hours of Le Mans ?
"To make it to the checkered flag! We aren't a contender for a podium finish but we're going to focus on the race. Le Mans is first and foremost a battle between the drivers and teams against the race itself. We take on the 24 Hours and see where we end up."
