The pattern was set after the first race of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup at Silverstone. Today at Road Atlanta, Peugeot has all but confirmed LM P1, and the ranking is very tight LM GT2.
Brief review of potential scenarios for the six titles:
Constructors LM P1
Given that Peugeot has a lead of 36 points, if a Peugeot finishes in the top 11 of the class in China, the French manufacturer wins the title.
Constructors LM GT2
The title will be decided between Porsche, currently second, and Ferrari, the leader. BMW will need a failure of the two other manufacturers expect to prevail, which is possible but unlikely. Jaguar is eliminated.
Teams LM P1
14 points ahead, Peugeot will arrive in China in a strong position. However, in case of failure of one of both Peugeot 908 HDi FAP in Zhuhai, Audi Sport Team Joest still have a possibility to win the title if both R15 Plus have an excellent result.
Teams LM P2
OAK Racing made a good move by coming to the United States as the team walks away with 23 points ahead of MIK Corse, who were absent at Petit Le Mans. If it turns out that the Italian team's visit to China (now uncertain) does not go ahead, the French team would be assured of the title. If not, and the Italians take their two cars to Zhuhai, they can still turn things around with a good result.
Teams LM GT1
Larbre Competition was a solo hit at Silverstone, but absence on American soil, as well as that of Atlas FX - Team FS froze the positions that will now be determined in China. If the Austrian team's performance in China matches Larbre Competition at Silverstone, namely pole plus victory, both teams will share the title.
Teams LM GT2
Risi Competizione, Flying Lizard Motorsport and Rahal Letterman Racing teams have all certainly contributed to the Manufacturers' title, respectively, for Ferrari, Porsche and BMW, but they will not be present in China. Consequently, the only contenders in the teams title will AF Corse, Team Felbermayr-Proton and CRS Racing who were absent at Road Atlanta. Three other teams - Prospeed Competition, BMW Team Schnitzer and Gulf Team First - can still mathematically be eligible for the title, but their chances are very low. Chances for RSR Jaguar, meanwhile are nil.
See you in China for the 5th - 7th of November!
