Le Mans Classic 2016 - The latest update

The Ford GT 40s monopolized the top spots in field 4, the Lola T70s were in good form in field 5 and Marco Werner's Porsche 936 didn't let up.

FIELD 4: The Ford GT 40s dominated the podiums in the three field 4 races with the exception of race 3 when the Shelby Cobra 289 of Ludovic Caron claimed the third step on the podium (powered by Ford though. The 50th anniversary of Ford's one-two-three at Le Mans in 1966 is now fully commemorated after a Ford GT victory at the 24 Hours back in June. In race 1, the #19 driven by Christophe Van Riet won ahead of the #32 and #46. In race 2 and race 3, Shaun Lynn won at the wheel of the #46 Ford GT 40 ahead of the #32 1965 Ford GT 40 driven by Richard Meins. The #67 Ford GT 40 driven by Diogo Ferrao and Jesus Fuster came in third in race 2.

FIELD 5: Bernard Thuner won race 1 and race 3 at the wheel of his #12 1968 Lola T70 MK III ahead of Eric De Donker in another Lola MK III B (#42, 1969). In race 2 Eric De Donker came in ahead of De Donker. The #23 Porsche 917 driven by Carlos Monteverdre and Gary Pearson rounded out the race 1 podium. In the other two races, two others Lolas - the #51 Lola T70 MKIII B driven by Shaun Lynn in race 2 and the #55 driven by Toni Seiler in race 3 - that clinched third place, respectively.

FIELD 6: Marco Werner and the #78 Porsche 936 reigned supreme in field 6 in all three races. This 1982 Porsche 936 that the three-time Le Mans winner was entrusted with by Ulrich Schumacher had been slightly damaged during the free practice. It held its own perfectly against the 1973 and 1974 Gulf Mirages, decimated during the last field 6 race and the final race of this 2016 Le Mans Classic. After coming close to a podium finish in race 1, Dominique Guénat scored third place in race 2 and race 3 at the wheel of his #33 Lola T286. Marco Werner thanked his team who magnificently prepared the car: "The car was very difficult to drive, I can tell you that doing a 40-minute stint in this car amounts to four and a half hours of effort at the wheel of the Audi R8 in which I won at Le Mans."

The 2016 Le Mans Classic ended as it began, in crowd enthusiasm and a new spectator record. Now anticipating 2018's motorsports show themed the 24 Hours of Le Mans!
