LM GTE Pro Balance of Performance change ahead of Le Mans

In line with article 7.4.3 of the Sporting Regulations and article 20 of the LM GTE Pro Technical Regulations, the FIA Endurance Committee has today revised the Balance of Performance (BoP) between LM GTE Pro-class cars ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the third round of the 2016 World Endurance Championship (WEC) season.

GT-class cars are originally production cars that can differ considerably from one another. A week-long series of tests was conducted last autumn to iron out these differences and create a level playing field in terms of performance. The Endurance Committee has leeway to make further adjustments over the course of the season after examining the times set by each car.

Today’s decision – which is final – concerns all five manufacturers competing in the LM GTE Pro class. In terms of weight, the Ferrari 488 GTE and the Ford GT must respectively take on board an extra 15 kg and 10 kg of ballast. The weight of the Porsche, Aston Martin and Chevrolet Corvette cars remains unchanged. Furthermore, the diameter of the air restrictor on the Vantage and the C7.R has been increased by 0.2 mm, resulting in increased power, while the Ford GT’s turbo boost pressure has been reduced. Finally, fuel capacity has been increased by three litres on the Porsche 911 RSR (2016), and by two litres on the Ferrari and Corvette.

The decision takes effect from the 24 Hours of Le Mans which will start tomorrow, Saturday 18 June, at 15:00 local time.
