Your first 24 Hours of Le Mans as a driver: "It was in 2006 with Paul Belmondo Racing in a Courage C65 Mecachrome with Claude-Yves Gosselin and Karim Ojjeh. It was bittersweet because we were forced to retire at midnight but I had still discovered the magic of Le Mans. I remember, during Test Day, taking on the Mulsanne Straight but I didn't go full-on because I was afraid of messing up the braking (laughs). That straight is very impressive. I also remember the parade and the start procedure. It was just too short because I only did one stint."
Your first 24 Hours of Le Mans as a spectator: "I came several times in the 1990s and 2000s. The very first time, I had to have been 10, I think, so around 1994 or 1995. I was starting out in karting. We were going to Larbre Compétition. At the time, Jack Leconte's team was based in Caen, near our company. I know him well and he invited us often to the tests."
Your best memory at Le Mans: "There are several. I would say 2008 because it was a great adventure claiming an LM P2 podium finish with Matthieu Lahaye and Cong Fu Cheng. It was in the first Pescarolo LM P2 entered by Saulnier Racing which became OAK Racing thereafter. We were a part of start of that endeavor."
"There is also 2009 in LM P1 (in the Courage LC70 of Signature Plus with Franck Mailleux and Didier André, editor's note) but unfortunately I made a mistake and made contact with a competitor. We finished 11th. And 2010 was a good year as well because it was in the Lola Aston Martin LM P1, a magical car (with Franck Mailleux and Vanina Ickx, editor's note). Meanwhile, we were forced to retire at 10 o'clock in the morning. Lastly I would say 2012 because we achieved our best overall result, 10th, and fourth in LM P2 (in the Oreca 03 Signatech Nissan with Roman Rusinov and Nelson Panciatici, editor's note) after a great battle."
Your worst memory at Le Mans: "2011! It had already started badly for Matthieu Lahaye who had an accident at Spa-Francorchamps. Also, we had huge reliability concerns. We had to retire at 2:00 a.m. (in OAK Racing's Pescarolo 01 with Guillaume Moreau and Tiago Monteiro, editor's note) but it had been awhile since we were a contender in the race for the win. It's too bad."
The teammate who has most marked you: "Matthieu Lahaye. Even though I had known of him since karting, we hadn't really met or gotten to know one another. He was a really good teammate, he's one of my best friends and we see each other outside of racing. Then I'd say Nelson Panciatici who has an exceptional top speed. In the beginning, he was used to single-seaters but he has really adapted well to endurance. He is still very fast but with experience in terms of managing the race and the traffic."
Is there significance to your helmet decoration: "In the very beginning, the idea was to have a fluorescent yellow helmet so my mother could recognize me in the karting fields (laughs). I kept the colour and changed it with designs by Grégory Brand (of the B-Design company, editor's note) who paints my helmets. I have asked him for a helmet every year that includes yellow and blue, colours I like. They are also the colours of my sponsor, Groupauto. It changes with the addition of other markings, according to what Grégory and I want."
