OAK Racing, whose base lies just a stone’s throw from the Circuit de la Sarthe, was a regular competitor at the iconic endurance event for many years before refocusing its activity on the constructor side as Onroak Automotive, the outfit that designs the Morgan and Ligier cars.
Now two of its Morgans are to join the 24 Hours Museum. First, the Art Car that features an armour made from welded signposts (weighing in at 250 kg!), designed by Costa in 2013. The racing version (DNF) got round the weight issue by sporting decals reproducing the design.
The second Morgan was entered in Garage 56, reserved for ground-breaking projects running outside official classification, at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, enabling Frédéric Sausset to achieve his dream of competing despite losing all four limbs to illness. Sausset, supported by teammates Christophe Tinseau and Jean-Bernard Bouvet, managed to last the full 24 hours and cross the finish line, to the admiration of all.
Spectators at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans will be able to admire both cars because General Enclosure tickets now include free admission to the 24 Hours Museum.
