Pierre Gasly ready to go from #LeMans24Virtual to the real 24 Hours of Le Mans

Formula One driver Pierre Gasly took part in the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, at the wheel of the Veloce Esport 1 Oreca LMP. The Frenchman, who drives for Scuderia Alpha Tauri Honda, could seem himself at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Gasly’s onscreen experience of Le Mans saw him share stints in the simulator with Jean-Eric Vergne, Jarno Opmeer and Isaac Gillissen for the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend. Veloce Esports 1 finished fifth overall, a lap behind the winning car #1 Oreca LMP fielded by Rebellion Williams Esport.

The 24 hours of intense, nerve-wracking racing left Pierre Gasly enthusiastic: “It was a great experience. I had a good time. I enjoyed being teamed with Jean-Eric, Isaac and Jarno. We took fifth place. There was very little between the leaders and the cars in front were really fast. We were in 19th place on the starting grid. We had a couple of penalties and an accident during the night, which left us 1’20 behind after repairs. All in all, it’s a result to be proud of. It was a superb race. We had some tussles and it was intense right to the end. I was even more stressed than for a real race because I can’t stand not feeling completely in control. I hope the next time I do Le Mans it’ll be for real, because it was really cool. I’m looking forward to getting back in the driving seat. The Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans got me in the mood for racing."

So, we may see Pierre Gasly at the 24 Hours of Le Mans one day. In the meantime, he’ll soon be heading for Spielberg in Austria when the Formula One season kicks off.
