Pole position at Le Mans - Kazuki Nakajima (#8 Toyota): "[This was] 1% of the work!"

Like last year, a Japanese driver has clinched the pole for Toyota. Sébastien Buemi and Fernando Alonso have their teammate Kazuki Kobayashi to thank.

It was early in today's qualifying session that Kazuki Nakajima clocked a lap in 03:15:377, placing the #8 Toyota TS050-Hybrid in pole position. It may not have beaten the record of 03:14:791 achieved last year by Kamui Kobayashi, but it's a great result all the same.

Kazuki Nakajima: "I pushed hard to beat Kamui's record, but the track conditions were different last year. I may have been able to gain a few tenths of a second, but it's still a good time. I had no traffic in the lap and the track was better than yesterday. This time I could feel the grip. The time is not as good as we expected but I'm still pleased. Qualifying at Le Mans amounts to 1% in the final result. It's good for the team, but we all know it has no impact on the race itself. The most important thing is we achieved good balance in race conditions. For now, everything is working perfectly. We've tested various types of tires, including slicks. We've tried to consider every possible scenario for the race and we're ready!"
