Renault resurrect Alpine

Renault Alpine will be reborn in 2016, 20 years after its demise and nearly 40 years after victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The demonstration of Carlos Tavares driving an Alpine A442 B last July at Le Mans Classic was a premonition. At the time, lafter getting out of the yellow prototype (that won the 24 Hours in 1978), the Chief Operating Officer of Renault assured: "The ambition to revive Alpine depends on our ability to find a partner to ensure the economic viability of this adventure". With the arrival of Caterham, it's done!

The French manufacturer and British team announced the signing of a partnership on Monday to develop and produce sports cars using "the DNA of the Alpine." The car brand founded in 1955 by Jean Rédélé will be manufactured from 2016 on the historic site in Dieppe Seine-Maritime.

Although nothing has been announced, many admirers of Alpine a expect a return to the mountains or on the racetrack. After all, they won the first Rally World Championship Rally in 1973 before winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1978. Present for the first time in 1963, Alpine was regularly represented in La Sarthe up until 1994 with the presence of an A610 Turbo prepared by a private team.
