New challenges on revised Silverstone circuit.

The new Silverstone 'Arena' circuit, that hosted the 2010 British Grand Prix, was formally opened this April by His Royal Highness the Duke of York. The £5 million revision to the track still has the same memorable features as before with the addition of six challenging new turns between Abbey and Brooklands. These track modifications and the improvements to to spectator areas will give race fans a better view from new raised banks and realigned grandstands. It is expected to have a similar average speed to the previous track, with a slightly longer lap time. The changes have lengthened the track by 0.472 miles to 3.66 miles (5.89km). This is part of an ongoing two year development of the circuit that will be completed in 2011 with the opening of the new pit complex.

Teams will be busy today finding the optimum settings for the new course in anticipation of qualifying tomorrow (Saturday) 13:00 to 14:00 and the start of the 170 laps of this historic venue that comprise the 1000km of Silverstone at 11:55 on Sunday the 12th of September.
