The Ligier JS P2 fielded by Panis-Barthez Compétition will be driven by Fabien Barthez, Timothé Buret and Paul-Loup Chatin but, should one of them be forced to pull out, the French team will be able to count on youngster Simon Gachet.
As stipulated in Article 10.9 of the Specific Regulations, reserve drivers are not permitted but, in case of force majeure, the composition of a driver line-up may be changed after 12 May 2016 – the deadline for nominating the complete line-up – provided that a written request explaining this change is accepted by the ACO Sports Committee.
Therefore, should one of the three designated drivers of the outfit set up by former sportscar and Formula One driver Olivier Panis, and Fabien Barthez, the 1998 World Cup-winning footballer, be prevented from taking part, Simon Gachet will be able to step in. Gachet will be at the Test Day of Sunday to cover the statutory ten laps required of all 24 Hours of Le Mans rookies.
The young Frenchman is no stranger to Panis-Barthez Compétition as he already competes in the European Le Mans Series at the wheel of the team’s Ligier JS P3. With this teammates Valentin Moineault and Eric Debard, Gachet made the LM P3 podium at the 4 Hours of Imola, the second round of the 2016 European championship season.
