The ten former winners have 22 Le Mans 24 Hours wins between them but only three drivers contributed to Porsche’s record eighteen victories: Dutchman Gijs van Lennep and Frenchmen Henri Pescarolo and Romain Dumas. However, there is no shortage of interesting details about all of them!
- In six Le Mans entries with Porsche, Gijs van Lennep finished in the top five five times. He won in 1971 and 1976, came second in 1974, fourth in 1973 and fifth in 1975.
- Four-time winner and holder of the record for the most participations at Le Mans, Henri Pescarolo won Le Mans for the fourth time in a Porsche 956. That year, he and German Klaus Ludwig formed the last two-man crew to win the iconic 24-hour race.
- Winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Matra in 1973 and 1974, Gérard Larrousse finished second with Porsche in 1969 with the 908 and the following year with the 917.
- Star Jaguar driver Jan Lammers ran his first two Le Mans 24 Hours with Porsche. His car was retired in 1984 but in 1983 he came 8th in the 956.
- Jochen Mass drove a Porsche for 7 out of his 11 Le Mans 24 Hours races. His best result with the German constructor was second in 1982, alongside Australian driver Vern Schuppan. However, he went on to take the race outright in 1989 with a Sauber-Mercedes.
Winner in 1993 with Peugeot, Eric Helary was runner-up with the Porsche-powered Courage prototype in 1995 with co-drivers Mario Andretti and Bob Wollek.
- Since his first victory with Audi in 2010, Romain Dumas has won Le Mans twice with Porsche, celebrating an LM GTE Pro class win with the 911 RSR in 2013 and overall victory in the 919 Hybrid last month.
- The only three Le Mans winners who have not experienced the 24 Hours at the wheel of a Porsche are Andy Wallace, Emanuele Pirro and Marco Werner.
