Today in history - The birth of a Le Mans-winning marque

Well-known Swiss driver Louis Chevrolet founded the company Chevrolet on 3 November 1911 with William C. Durant, who had set up General Motors a few years earlier.

Briggs Cunningham fielded a Chevrolet Corvette C1 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1960, coming a respectable eighth. Saturday 17 June 2000 saw the first official Chevrolet entry at Le Mans, with Corvette Racing clinching third and fourth place with two C5-Rs. Since then, the marque affectionately known in the US as “‘Vette” has taken home eight class wins, including four one-two finishes.
