Today's Photo Story - EMKA Productions at the 1980 24 Hours of Le Mans

On December 23, 1815, Jane Austen's novel "Emma" was released, first published anonymously with the specification "by the author of 'Pride and Prejudice'." One June 14, 1980, a Ferrari 512 boasting the colors of EMKA Productions, acronym of the first letters of the founder's daughter's names, took the start at 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Pink Floyd producer Steve O’Rourke and the band's drummer Nick Mason first competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1979, O'Rourke finishing 12th with a GT - the Ferrari 512 - and Mason finishing 18th with a Lola T297 prototype. With the same cars the next year, Nick Mason crossed the finish line ahead of Steve O’Rourke, 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Though they made appearances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans several times, they only shared a wheel once, in 1982. Unfortunately, their BMW M1 was forced to retire.
